4-Ingredient Cinnamon French Toast Bake Recipe

4-Ingredient Cinnamon French Toast Bake

Serves 8

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. Only a simple custard is needed since the cinnamon bread is already loaded with lots of flavor and sweetness.

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf cinnamon bread (See Cook’s Tips)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
  • Sweetened whipped cream
  • OPTIONAL:
  • Powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Cut bread into 8 slices, about 1-inch thick.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, and a pinch of salt until thoroughly combined. Submerge slices of bread into mixture, a couple minutes each, allowing bread to soak up custard.
  3. Shingle slices into a buttered 2-quart baking dish. Slowly pour remaining custard over arranged bread. Let sit 15 minutes.
  4. Bake 20 to 30 minutes until everything is cooked through and edges of bread look slightly golden.
  5. Serve with whipped cream and dust with powdered sugar, if desired.
  6. Cook’s Tips:
  7. For this recipe, you’ll want a sweetened, frosted cinnamon bread which can be found in our bakery. Alternatively, try using a cinnamon or chocolate babka for equally delicious results.
  8. Assemble a day ahead: Slice bread and prepare custard. Arrange bread in a single layer in a rimmed sheet pan. Pour custard all over. Flip bread over so both sides are wet. Refrigerate overnight. This will allow custard to fully saturate bread and results in a creamy consistency. Bake on sheet pan or carefully transfer to buttered casserole dish. It’s okay if the slices break. The end result will be more like bread pudding.
