Mask Policy Update

At Metropolitan Market the health and well-being of all who enter our stores is our top priority.  Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our stores have been open and serving customers as an essential business. We are proud to have been able to serve our communities during this time and your comments are taken seriously.  We continue to evaluate our protocols around the spread of COVID-19 and we appreciate the time you have taken to share your feedback.

With local COVID-19 case and hospitalization rates decreasing but still at elevated levels, Public Health – Seattle & King County Health Officer Dr. Jeff Duchin has issued a Health Officer directive strongly urging all residents, fully vaccinated or not, to continue wearing face masks temporarily in public indoor settings.  Metropolitan Market customers are strongly urged to support the King County directive while shopping in our stores.

We will continue to monitor the situation and do our best to adhere to advice from local health officials as we navigate this next chapter.  All Metropolitan Market team members have been offered COVID-19 vaccination. Team member vaccination events took place over the span of several weeks, during February, March, April and May.  Hundreds of team members opted to become vaccinated and have now reached “fully vaccinated” status, as defined by the CDC.

Please know, our COVID-19 mitigation policies remain in place, including, but not limited to: Limited building capacity, enhanced cleaning and sanitation practices, physical distancing barriers and wellness checks for all team members.

Reusable Shopping Bags

Effective immediately, we are again accepting reusable shopping bags in our stores. Customers now have the option to have their groceries bagged with new paper bags from our stores or reusable shopping bags brought from home.

Cleaner Air

In addition to weekly electrostatic disinfecting services, we’ve had a special device installed that helps neutralize the threat of potentially harmful airborne pathogens within each of our stores 24/7.

New WA State Face Mask Requirement

In accordance with the latest statewide regulations effective July 7, 2020, all customers and team members are required to wear face masks while in our stores. Anyone not properly masked will be asked to return at another time with a proper face covering. If you are unable to wear a mask due to health concerns, we ask that you have another member of your household who is comfortable wearing a mask complete the shopping, or take advantage of our online grocery delivery or curbside pickup service powered by Instacart. Thank you for your understanding, and for doing your part in slowing the spread of COVID-19.

Store Hours Extended

All store locations will now be open 6am – 11pm daily. Based on these extended hours we are no longer offering a dedicated Senior Shopping Hour.

Face Masks Required

Effective Friday 6/26, in accordance with the new state mandate, all customers are required to wear a mask or face covering while shopping in our stores.

Store Hours Extended

Effectively immediately our daily store hours are extended at all locations now 8am-11pm. We will continue to offer a Senior Shopping Hour for senior community members as well as other at-risk shoppers available from 7am-8am daily.


APRIL 29, 2020

Hand Washing Stations Installed

For your safety and convenience, hand washing stations have been installed at the entrance to our stores and are being serviced on a regular basis to maintain cleanliness. We encourage you to wash your hands before entering the store to shop.

Face Coverings and Masks

In accordance with CDC recommendations, we are asking everyone, including customers and team members to wear a face covering while inside all Metropolitan Market locations.

Customer Capacity Limits

Our store is actively monitoring the number of people in the building in order to give required space to customers and team members. If we are at capacity, we appreciate your patience and understanding as you wait to enter.


MARCH 31, 2020

Creating Safe Shopping Space

To better support social distancing, we’ve placed red circular markers on the floor throughout each of our stores. Please use these as guides while shopping and waiting in line to create six feet of separation between you and fellow shoppers.

Protective Barrier Installed at Checkstands

In an effort to better protect the health of our team members and customers, we have installed clear protective barriers, or ‘sneeze guards,’ at each of our registers and in other key service areas in our stores. These plexiglass barriers are designed to add another protective layer of safety at checkout, but we ask all customers to please maintain social distancing at all times.

Effective Monday 3/23/20: we will only be bagging groceries using new paper bags from the store. While sustainability is still very important to us, this is a temporary and precautionary measure we are taking to protect our team members and customers. We apologize for any inconvenience.


Effective Monday 3/23/20: We are extending our Senior Shopping Hour to include Saturday and Sunday. Now senior shoppers and and any other at-risk shoppers (see original post below) are invited to shop in our stores from 7-8am daily. Thank you for your support.

Due to current circumstances, we are discontinuing promotional coupon offers until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.


Effective Friday 3/20/20: We encourage those at risk for serious illness from COVID-19 to take advantage of grocery delivery services or enlist friends or family members to shop in their place. However, we know this is not always possible, so we are creating a special time for our senior shoppers and any other at-risk shoppers, including pregnant women and those who are immunocompromised, from 7-8AM, Monday through Friday. We ask for all customers that have timing flexibility to help us support our community and observe this hour to allow us to provide extra space and additional assistance to these shoppers.
