Kahlua Horchata Recipe

Kahlua Horchata

Serves 1

Inspired by sweet, creamy horchata, a popular Mexican drink, made of rice milk and cinnamon. This coffee cocktails is sure to be a crowd pleaser, store bought rice milk enrichened with heavy cream and simple syrup make the ways of traditional horchata in this grown up version.


  • Cinnamon sugar
  • Ice
  • 1/3 fl oz (2 tsp) heavy cream
  • 1/2 fl oz (1 Tbsp) simple syrup
  • 4 fl oz (1/2 cup) rice milk
  • 2 fl oz (1/4 cup) tequila
  • 1 fl oz (2 Tbsp) Kahlua


  1. Coat rim of a tall glass with cinnamon-sugar (See Cook’s Tip). Carefully fill glass halfway with ice.
  2. Add heavy cream and simple syrup to rice milk and stir. Carefully pour into the glass
  3. In a mixing glass, stir together tequila and Kahlua.
  4. Slowly pour the milk. Stir and enjoy!
  5. Cook’s Tip:
  6. To coat rim of glass with cinnamon sugar, mix 2 Tbsp granulated sugar and ¾ tsp ground cinnamon (or use jarred cinnamon-sugar) together on a small plate. Moisten rim of glass with rice milk or water. Dip in sugar mixture.
